Ingredients:
- For the base:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- For the toffee layer:
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- For topping:
- 1 cup slivered almonds (or chopped almonds, toasted for extra flavor)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional for drizzling or topping)
Instructions:
- Prepare the base:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- In a medium bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until a dough forms.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a base layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the base is lightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside.
- Make the toffee layer:
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Stir the mixture constantly as it comes to a boil. Allow it to cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly. Be careful not to burn the toffee.
- Pour the toffee mixture over the baked base, spreading it out evenly.
- Add the almond topping:
- Immediately sprinkle the slivered almonds evenly over the hot toffee layer. If you like, you can press the almonds slightly into the toffee for better adhesion.
- Optional: Add chocolate drizzle (optional but recommended):
- Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the almond topping for extra richness.
- Cool and cut:
- Let the bars cool in the pan at room temperature for about 1 hour, or place them in the refrigerator for faster cooling.
- Once fully cooled, cut into squares or bars and serve.
Enjoy.
